I recently cleaned my 24-70 using some Tiffen lens papers and Zeiss lens fluid. I ended up getting a rub mark on the back element. It's fairly small (0.5x0.5mm) and about half a centimeter from the edge. Does anybody have an idea of how badly this will affect image quality? The mark is only visible under high lighting, normal daylight will not expose this flaw. I hear that the rear element is the worst place to have a blemish (with the exception of the sensor XD).
This lens, if I remember correctly, is supposed to be weather and dust sealed. I found some large particles inside, should I sent it back to Nikon?
Also, has anybody had sharpness issues with this lens at 2.8? They all say that lenses are blurry when wide open, but it seems that after my failed attempt at cleaning, it seems to be much more blurry. Also, the 24-70 has a reputation for being Nikon's sharpest 2.8 normal zoom. Maybe I'm just paranoid, and hadn't looked closely at my images before.
If anybody has any sample images, that would be great. I shoot a D300s with 24-70, if you have that exact same setup could you perhaps upload a few shots for me to compare with?
